This Privacy Policy explains how information is accessed, collected, used, shared, retained, and protected when you use PDF Reader - View & Edit (the “App”). The App is an Android document reader and PDF toolkit. It currently does not require account registration or login.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to the App and its related support communications. It does not govern third-party apps, websites, advertisements, printing services, sharing targets, file providers, or platform services that have their own privacy policies.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Files and document information
With your permission, the App accesses supported PDF, DOC/DOCX, PPT/PPTX, XLS/XLSX, TXT, and image files to provide document discovery, classification, search, reading, editing, conversion, sharing, printing, locking, and unlocking.
The App may process file names, extensions, file paths or system URIs, file size, creation or modification time, favorite status, recent-file status, reading position, thumbnails, and task status on your device. Document content, selected images, scans, annotations, and generated files are generally processed locally on the device and are not intentionally uploaded to servers operated by us.
2.2 Scans and selected images
Scan to PDF may invoke Google ML Kit Document Scanner or a related Google Play services component. The scanning interface and camera access are provided by that component. Scan results are returned to the App for preview and PDF creation. Image to PDF and Image Viewer use the Android system photo picker or another system selection interface to access only images you choose.
2.3 App preferences and activity stored locally
The App may store language, last selected tab, sort order, reading position, recent documents, favorites, annotation settings, notification state, and unfinished task state on your device so that the App can restore your experience.
2.4 Device, advertising, and diagnostics data
The App contains splash, interstitial, native, and banner advertising. Advertising and technical service providers may process advertising identifiers, app instance identifiers, IP address, device model, operating system and version, language, time zone, network information, approximate location inferred from network information, ad requests, impressions, clicks, interactions, crash information, performance information, and anti-fraud signals.
Such information may be used to deliver and measure advertising, limit invalid traffic, prevent fraud, maintain security, diagnose failures, and improve service performance. Personalized advertising is used only where permitted by applicable law, device settings, and any consent choices made available to you.
2.5 Notifications
If notification permission is granted, the App may create device notifications for new documents, reading reminders, unfinished edits or tools, completed background tasks, and other configured App events. Notification eligibility is primarily evaluated on the device. You can disable notifications in Android settings.
3. How We Use Information
- Provide document browsing, search, reading, editing, scanning, conversion, merging, splitting, printing, sharing, locking, and unlocking.
- Restore favorites, recent files, reading position, language, and other settings.
- Deliver and measure advertisements, prevent invalid traffic, and protect security.
- Diagnose crashes and compatibility issues and improve performance.
- Comply with legal obligations, platform policies, and enforceable requests.
- Protect the rights, safety, and integrity of users, the App, service providers, and the public.
Depending on your location, processing may be based on your consent, performance of the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and securing the App, or compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent where applicable, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.
4. Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell your document content. Information may be disclosed in the following circumstances:
- At your direction: when you use Android sharing, printing, file selection, or another third-party destination.
- Service providers: advertising, scanning, crash diagnostics, performance, security, and infrastructure providers may process the minimum information needed to provide their services.
- Legal and safety reasons: where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, investigate fraud or security incidents, or protect legal rights.
- Business transactions: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or asset transfer, subject to applicable safeguards.
Google Play services and Google ML Kit Document Scanner may be used for scanning. Advertising may be provided through advertising SDKs and mediation partners included in the distributed version of the App. Those providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Data collected by third-party SDKs is treated as data collection through the App for platform disclosure purposes.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- File indexes, favorites, recent records, reading positions, and preferences are mainly retained locally until you remove them, clear App data, or uninstall the App.
- Files saved to
Download/PDF Reader/or another public folder remain on the device after uninstalling. You can delete them through the App or a system file manager. - Service providers retain advertising, security, and diagnostics data according to their policies and only for periods reasonably necessary for their stated purposes and legal obligations.
- Information that must be retained for security, fraud prevention, disputes, or legal compliance is retained only as long as necessary and then deleted or de-identified.
The App does not currently provide user accounts, so there is no account-deletion process. You may request deletion of personal data controlled by us by emailing hkeygood@gmail.com.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature and risk of the information, including data minimization, Android permission controls, access restrictions, and encrypted transmission where applicable. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
PDF passwords are selected and controlled by you. The App does not provide password recovery. Losing a PDF password may make the file permanently inaccessible, so you should keep backups of important files.
7. International Data Transfers
Advertising, scanning, diagnostics, or infrastructure providers may process information outside your country or region. Where required, appropriate contractual, technical, or legal safeguards are used for international transfers.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, know, correct, delete, restrict, object, withdraw consent, receive a portable copy, opt out of certain targeted advertising or sharing, and lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. California residents may also have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and receive non-discriminatory treatment.
You can manage file access, notifications, advertising identifiers, and other permissions in Android settings; remove local records within the App; delete generated files through the App or system file manager; or submit a request to hkeygood@gmail.com. We may reasonably verify your request before responding.
9. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. A higher minimum age may apply in your country. If we learn that a child’s personal information was collected contrary to applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. A parent or guardian may contact hkeygood@gmail.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the App, service providers, law, or platform requirements. The effective date at the top will be updated, and material changes will be communicated through an appropriate notice where required.
